The Congress Party has strongly reacted to a Delhi court’s decision granting relief to party leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case, calling it a slap on the face of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. In a major press conference, Congress demanded that both leaders resign immediately.
“We Will Teach Them a Lesson”
Speaking at the press conference, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said, “We will continue to fight them both inside and outside Parliament and ensure they are taught a lesson.” On Tuesday, a Delhi court ruled in favor of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, along with five others, refusing to take cognizance of the ED’s chargesheet. The court observed that the Enforcement Directorate’s investigation was based on a private complaint rather than an FIR.
“Modi and Shah Should Resign”
Kharge added, “After this verdict, Modi and Shah should resign. This is a direct blow to their credibility. They must step down so they stop harassing people in this manner. People will not tolerate such actions.” Congress leaders K. C. Venugopal, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Jairam Ramesh, and Pawan Khera also addressed the press conference.
Congress Workers to Show Strength
According to Congress, their leadership had already protested the summons issued by investigative agencies. “We fought this issue with rallies and marches, and we will continue our struggle in Parliament, on streets, and elsewhere to teach them a lesson,” said Kharge. Venugopal stated that Congress will expose the Modi government’s “politics of revenge,” and party workers across India will demonstrate against the misuse of investigative agencies. Singhvi added, “The law has spoken louder than the uproar. The National Herald case shows political vendetta and harassment.”
Why Sonia and Rahul Gandhi Received Relief
Earlier on Tuesday, Special Judge Vishal Gogne ruled that the ED’s chargesheet under the money laundering case could not be taken cognizance of as it was legally flawed. The judge clarified that the investigation was based on a private complaint by Subramanian Swamy, not an FIR related to any cognizable offense.
